2D Surface Design

Step 1: Find and document examples of surface design IRL.

1. Geometric, scale pattern no. 9 (Meller 203); 2. Geometric, tile pattern no. 3 (Meller 240); 3. Geometric, tile pattern no. 2 (Meller 240);
4. Geometric, triangles no. 2 (Meller 241); 5. Art movements and period styles, supergraphics no. 3 (Meller 44); 6. Fruit (or pomegranate) wallpaper (Morris 76); 7. Zebra wallpaper (Crosland 360); 8. Design for silk, Liberty & Co. (Lyons 70); 9. Tablecloth.

10. Sidewalk at University of Manitoba; 11Holiday Inn elevator door in Winnipeg; 12Starbucks merchandise at University of Manitoba;

Step 2: Use basic 2D tools to create my own surface design sample in Rhino.

1. polyline > single point > move > polyline

2. mirror

3. rotate > trim > mirror

4. mirror > retrace shapes > copy > paste > move

5. cell (construction geometry) > create layers 2, 3, 4 > hatch

6. copy + paste layers 2, 3, 4 > array x/y
